What Do We Mean By This?
The purpose of dividends is to get to a point where we do not need to focus on dividends, so that our lives are free from economic and financial anxiety.This might seem paradoxical. It is like saying the purpose of money is to be able to ignore money, but that is also true.
Our goal is to get to a point where we no longer need to fret about our financial situation. We work and we save and we invest. The end game is to no longer need to work and save and invest. No longer need to work, and no longer need to save any additional funds, and no longer need to invest any more than we have already done.
Or at least to do any more than we want to.
We may wish to work because we want to, not because we need to. We may wish to save more because we want to, not because we need to. We may wish to invest more because we want to, not because we need to.
In The Land Of Personhood
We do all of these things… work, save, invest… so that we can live our lives apart from working, saving, investing.
In the modern world, we need to harness the power of work, saving and investing to be free of them. However, when we harness these things, they also harness us. We can feel trapped and enslaved to the actual activities we feel we must do, such that we can feel hopelessly ground down.
Or in another distraction, we can get so wrapped up in needing to accumulate money that we could lose our humanness.
The point we can arrive at, if we keep in mind why we do what we are doing, is to see our work as limited in time, and limited in scope, and as a result we must also have goals outside of our daily workaday pursuits.
And So
And so we say confidently, the purpose of dividends and working and money and investing is to have a good quality of life.
If we are in debt and have trouble paying our bills, we are not comfortable. Worry and stress rule our days.
But when we have enough, we have the opportunity to shake off that anxiety and worry.
The Purpose
Summed up in Financial Independence Is Not The Real Goal, the real goal is to have a better life. Many roads lead to a better life, but relieving oneself of stress and anxiety is a primary one.
