It seems obvious to me that we are a country that lives by the sword.
And most if not all nations are the same. I cannot believe that there may be a country that has never waged war.
And therefore I suppose that in some ways, the purpose of a nation is to be able to make war.
The Name
Now that Trump has renamed the Defense Department to the War Department, it seem clear that we are headed for a war. There would be no purpose in a rename without such a follow through.
You might say we’re already at war. You might say we’re always at war. And you’d be right. War permeates our culture, and it looks like it is accelerating.
Venezuela is recently looking like a likely target, but the winds of Trump’s ego change quickly.
Our current political situation is that we at war internally. Troops in cities. Mob mentality that gets people fired for having opinions. Political assassinations..
It seems that we are at war against whoever is deemed as “enemies.” The country is at war with immigrants. And with Trump’s anti-DEI push, he fires people at whim, especially women or people of color. And especially women of color in positions of power.
Unfortunately, this internal war will continue. This continuation heralds America’s decline, despite vocal huffing and puffing from talking heads. What’s next? We know Trump targets those that oppose him, even former advisors and supporters. He has the forces of government to move against whomever his ego feels displeased about.
Will we soon target people of the wrong religion? Sad to say, seems likely to happen as a natural progression.
Money Or Not
The Federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour, not changed since 2009. It seems amazing to me that here are so many states where the minimum wage is the same as the Federal minimum wage: Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi. New Hampshire, South Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, Wyoming.
U.S. inflation from 2009 to 2025 has been approximately 51%. Therefore anyone earning the Federal minimum wage is now earning the equivalent of about $3.63.
