The End of the Health Emergency? Don’t Bet on It

Nice announcement, but beware.

WHO and governments seems to have agreed that the end of the Covid “health emergency” has passed. However that is only a political determination, not a scientific or actual one.

How do I know this?
In the last week. I (and Mrs. Smile If You Dare) both became infected with Covid-19. We’re not sure where we picked it up, as we were masked for most riskier locations. But regardless of how we were infected, we got it. And I can inform you that the first few days are total misery.

We are fortunate that a lot of time has progressed since the beginning of Covid, such that tests and medications have been developed, and now we are on medication that was not available at the beginning of the pandemic.

So while many see the announcement of the end of the emergency as the indication things are “back to normal,” I can assure you that the virus is still circulating.

Losses
My experience with Covid, while uncomfortable, pales in comparison to the real losses. We did not need to be hospitalized. Worldwide more 6.3 million people have died from Covid-19. So far. In the U.S., more than one million have died. This includes persons we knew.

While no one really likes to wear masks, and in some places it is seen as a sign of hostility, it can reduce the risk.

Perhaps we became too complacent during the Covid crisis. For some of us, it seemingly came and went without touching us directly. But now it has. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, including you. Be careful out there.
