No AI Here, Guaranteed

It’s the panic of the week in internetland. “Oh my gawd!” Well, bah humbug, I say.

What goes around, goes around and around
The newest new thing is the AI panic. It seems all pearls are being clutched in the face of the latest buzzword of the week.

Not to say that artificial intelligence isn’t making strides. It is, and will likely become a force in many activities. This is clear.

But when it seems outsized and a “made for 24-hour news panic” is the hype-like reactions being flamed by people who have nothing else to do. Or so it seems to me.

It happens every few weeks
In our culture, something must take the lead in one of several modes: panic, excitement, horror. (There may be other flailings that don’t come to mind at the moment.)

And now, for its fifteen minutes of fame, it is now AI’s turn.

If we think about what or who has had its place in the sun? So many things, such as: Radio, TV, the Internet, War, Terror, cryptocurrencies, trials and scandals, celebrities, various company misdeeds. Headlines will scream about whatever is culture’s latest and current rage for a few days, or a few weeks. And since new items keep occurring, soon things will fade from the forefront of breathless obsession, and be replaced by something new. Some new scandal, new absurdity, new whiz-bang technology, or demise of something or someone.

I see two classes of hype. One is to draw attention to some new technology, where the aim is to find people to part with their money, as in investing in a new technology. The second is to thrill people to continue their media attention, which secondarily affords more viewership, and thus finances to media.

These are not new. it’s been going on for decades, centuries, in one form or another.

When propaganda joins with AI, we are in for a bumpy ride.

So AI what?
As reported, among other things, AI can purportedly write articles, In short order, it is likely that numerous articles you will read will be generated by AI. In fact, it is likely many articles you have already read were composed by AI, it seems.

The result for employment is undecided at this point. Many have postulated that large shifts in employment, and unemployment, will occur from use of AI.

So here is my guarantee: No AI here.

Your reporter will write each and every article. By myself, without AI. If there are quotes or facts, I look them up myself. But no article will be generated by a computer of any kind.

That’s a guarantee.

In Other News
Some companies grow and continue to pay dividends. Some companies struggle. A few will go out of business. Some banks have gone bust. Other banks are tottering. Some others are doing well.

That’s all the nature of business. And our goal here is to stay afloat. Since no one here at Smile If You Dare (namely, the only one person here, me) is an expert in predicting the future, especially the financial future, the next best course of action is to aim to choose dividend-paying companies with staying power. Stick with the winners is always a good plan.

What is your plan? Let me know here.
