How It Is Done
Making progress, moving forward, all those things, are all accomplished in the same way: One Foot In Front Of The Other.
What Does That Mean
What does “One Foot In Front Of The Other” mean? It means just keep on moving, keep on doing, keep on persevering.
Sometimes Things Do Change
There’s an old saying that I am confident you are familiar with: “Life happens while you are busy making plans.” Things don’t stop, they just keep moving. So from my point of view, it is best, easier, and most efficient if I go with the movement instead of fighting it.
Most things in the human realm take time. So the sooner I set things up to take best advantage of time, the easier and simpler it will be to accomplish whatever I am aiming for.
And
So the above is my commentary on the event of the recent weeks (and years). While things were all in apparent turmoil and hackles were raised, people still went about their business of buying and selling. Business happened. Money was spent and money was obtained. I did not sell anything. (In fact, back in March 2020 during the “Covid crash,” I did some buying.) So dividends were for the most part continued, and are larger now than pre-Covid.
Things are always the same, and thing are always different
It was a difficult year for many many people. Covid destroyed many businesses and killed many people. There is no denying the destruction a plague can bring. And we are still suffering, and will continue to suffer long after the actual illness subsides.
And Yet
In the normal course of events, things just continue. You may ask: “What If Events No Longer Are Normal?” Yes, that is still always a possibility. Home country bias can be destructive when things deteriorate. While it always seems unlikely until it does happen, complete devastation is a distant threat.
Wars, revolutions, extensive market crashes, natural and unnatural disasters can provoke ruination. Not often experienced in the U.S., but numerous other countries have experienced multiple calamities of all kinds. So the financial strength that is engendered by dividend investing is not and cannot replace all aspects of human security. It is when we narrow the entire universe of possible outcomes to those under “normal” circumstances, and focus on financial ones, do we find a foundation to approach dividend investing.
The point here is that there is no one thing or process or procedure or activity or action that can provide survival and comfort under any possible experience. It is up to each individual to find a way in face of all the possible dangers one can face. By narrowing one’s focus to individual possibility areas, one can develop mechanisms for each possibility. As previously noted, Financial Independence Is Not The Real Goal .
